Five Mistakes To Avoid While Investing

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Each investor gets in the stock market with the same main goal- to add to their own wealth. For generations, the stock market has shown to be a winning strategy to establish personal riches for investors around the globe. Although a lot of investors are fortunate in their quests, there are as well numerous others who lose money attributable to several basic investment errors. The five most common investment errors are the lack of portfolio diversification, ineffective market timing, lack of reinvestment, emotional investing and overpaying for investments and investment advice.

1. Lack of Diversification

Diversification is among the fundaments to a flourishing investment portfolio, yet so many investors neglect to properly address this step. Whenever an investor decides to invest into a particular industry sector or into a particular company without diversifying across other investments, they’re essentially putting all of their eggs into one basket. This move can significantly add to the investor’s portfolio risk and the possibility for loss of capital. A properly diversified portfolio will adhere to all components of an asset allocation, considering risk tolerance, investment capital available, investment time frame and the current portfolio’s investment class weightings.

2. Market Timing

Some investors get wind of success stories from investors and traders who win big time by timing the markets. Although market timing can turn out to be successful for a lot of investors, many investors make the mistake of investing into a stock while its price is climbing instead of at the ground level. Another market timing error is selling an investment when the investor thinks that the stock is about to come down, potentially causing the investor to lose capital growth opportunities if the stock does not in fact drop-off as anticipated. Though market timing is a winning strategy for many investors, it can be a risky investment strategy and is not suggested for most investors.

3. Lack of Reinvestment

Whenever an investor is to sell off their investments, a big mistake that can be made is to not reinvest the money into a different investment, therefore holding the proceeds in cash. In many cases, it is advisable to reinvest the proceeds into another stock that meets the investor’s own objectives. Another reinvestment error occurs when investors fail to take advantage of the opportunity that a lot of investments offer the ability to reinvest dividends. This is an good strategy for wealth building and should be considered by nearly all investors.

4. Emotional Decisions

Most investors make their trading decisions on an emotional basis rather than on a logical basis. For instance, emotional investors will sell off an investment as it is dropping in price, therefore taking a loss instead of waiting for the market to re-correct. Although the overall investment goal is to buy when low and sell when high, a lot of investors execute the exact opposite strategy based on their emotional reactions.

5. Overpaying for Investment Fees

The price that is paid for investments can have a huge impact on an investor’s total investment return. Consider investment trading fees, investment transaction fees and up front prices for investment advice in order to ensure that your net investment returns are as healthy as possible.

Press Release Checklist – Are You Doing These 5 Things Correctly?

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Press releases let you use the media to draw attention to your business, which makes it more credible in the eyes of the public. Consider five easy tips on how to make your press release great.

Proper Format: All of your press releases should be written in the proper format. Your goal should be to give you and your business a professional air. You will need to review your press release, checking spelling, grammar, and punctuation before sending it to any media source.

Writing Clearly and Pointedly: Since most media outlets receive a steady stream of press releases, they do not have time to read long ones. No press release should be more than two pages in length. In order to keep your press release at this size, your writing needs to be clear and pointed, answering the most important questions: who, what, where, when, why, and how.

Emphasize Benefits to the Reader: Your press release should encourage readers to do something. Depending on the situation, you might tell them to check out your website, visit the grand opening of your new store, or attend your special event. Your writing should emphasize the benefits that your reader will receive by taking part in whatever it is that your press release is promoting. Instead of just writing a straightforward advertisement, make potential customers see what’s in it for them.

For example, a press release about a new food processor needs to tell readers more than the simple facts that the new product is more compact than older models. Make customers see the benefits they will derive from purchasing it by wording it differently. You could say, “The compact size of our new food processor will let customers maximize counter space while chopping up foods with just as much power as previous models.” This tells your reader why they need to buy your product.

Keep the Mood Interesting: You need to write in a style that will make readers excited about your product. Dress up the facts in an effort to keep things interesting for your readers. With the above food processor example, you can tell customers that “the new compact, counter-saving model will be in stores this spring, just when you’ll need it to chop up fresh veggies to make the perfect summer salad” instead of simply stating “the new food processor will be available in the spring.”

Keep Your Target Customer in Mind: Always remember who your target customers are while you write and submit your press releases. This will also help you to determine what information should be in your press release and which media sources you should submit it to.

You wouldn’t, for example, submit a press release about a children’s health event to a newspaper’s travel editor, since this will not help you get your information to your target audience.

10 Effective Ways To Promote Your Affiliate Programs

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

Promoting affiliate programs can undoubtedly produce great financial returns, but unfortunately most people never see these kinds of returns because they never figure out how to effectively promote their affiliate programs. Well this article will hopefully solve this problem as listed below are ten of the best methods you can use to start earning regular affiliate commissions.

1. Forums

Forums are one the most effective ways of marketing your affiliate programs if done correctly. By posting in relevant forums that allow sig files (where you can link to your own affiliate site, or directly to the product you are promoting if this is allowed) you can reach a targeted audience quickly and easily. As long as you post constructive comments, then you should see plenty of people clicking on your sig files to learn more about you, and the products you are promoting.

2. Articles

Writing articles is another cost-effective way of reaching your targeted market. By writing quality articles (that contain your resource box where you can link to your affiliate site) and submitting them to the various article directories, you can gain enormous exposure for your offers. A few people will come across your article in the article directories themselves, but it’s when website owners and ezine publishers pick up your article that you can really reach a massive target audience.

3. Press Releases

Press releases are similar to articles in that they provide a quick and easy way of reaching a large target audience. They can best be used when you have something newsworthy to say about either your own site or the actual products you are promoting. All you do is write the press release (in a journalistic style) and submit it to one of the larger online (or offline) press agencies.

4. Search Engine Optimization

This is probably the optimal form of promotion, but it’s also the most time-consuming, and it can take many months before you start to see any results. Nevertheless, if you can take time to optimize your website, and gain a lot of backlinks to your site using relevant keywords (including long-tail buying keywords) as the anchor text, you can receive a lot of traffic to your website when you start to obtain high search engine rankings.

5. Pay Per Click Advertising

This is a highly effective way of promoting your affiliate programs, either directly, or by using your own website to pre-sell the visitor. Pay per click advertising gives you the ability to advertise on the first few pages of results of the search engines for the exact keywords that you choose, so it’s no wonder that so many affiliates swear by this form of advertising. The main thing to remember is that you have to keep testing as much as possible and make sure you don’t spend too much per click on any of your keywords, so you maintain a positive return on your investment.

6. Advertising On Other Websites

You can buy advertising space or text links from numerous websites in all types of niches, so there’s plenty of opportunity to advertise your offers on other websites. The only downside is that it can be tricky finding websites that will give you a positive return on your investment, but if you can do this then there’s definitely good profits to be made.

7. Free Reports And Ebooks

Writing free reports and ebooks provide an excellent opportunity to access your target market, particularly if you add a viral aspect to them. All you do is write your own content, based around the product you are promoting, and include your affiliate links within this content. If your information is of a high quality, you can get massive exposure for your affiliate links as people pass it on to other people, and share it with their list of subscribers if they have one.

8. Blogs

Promotional blogs are a modern and extremely effective way of promoting your affiliate programs. Because they often contain fresh content on an ongoing basis, they are loved by the major search engines, and can therefore attract high levels of traffic.

9. Email Marketing

Advertising in relevant ezines has traditionally been a good way of promoting affiliate programs. Although not as effective as it once was due to strict spam filters, a well-written solo ad or an attention-grabbing classified ad in a targeted high readership ezine can still get great results. For best results, however, you should aim to build your own list of subscribers so you can send out your emails whenever you want, and can actually build a relationship with your list, which will increase your affiliate sales.

10. Offline Advertising

This is the final of form of advertising I want to discuss. Most online marketers ignore offline advertising completely, but there’s no doubt that offline advertising still works, and can even outperform online advertising in some cases. Business cards, flyers, magazine and newspaper advertising are just some of the ways you can effectively promote products offline.

James Woolley is a full-time marketer who runs a number of profitable websites. His latest site is essentially an affiliate program directory that reveals his best high paying affiliate programs.

Relationships Are Internet Currency

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Build your reputation by helping others build theirs. (Anthony D’Angelo)

In today’s global economy, we have the opportunity to impact, via the internet, people half the world away as well as those down the street. However, because of the multitude of messages we are subject to as a result of this media, distrust among consumers is more pervasive than ever.

How do we overcome this distrust to make the sale of ourselves or our product?

We foster relationships to build our online reputation. We work on relationships with visitors to our blogs, and relationships with customers at our websites. We stand behind our word, and behind our product. We become a trusted resource, a guide, a coach to encourage others trying to make a go of an online business, or a mentor to others already with a business online working to improve their lives.

We work on relationships with other online business owners, trading ideas and insights, promoting each other’s website or product. We prove ourselves to be reliable and trustworthy. We look out for the interests of others as well as our own.

Once these relationships are solid, we can invest in them and spend them like currency. Confidence flows back and forth between such parties because each “trust account” has a positive balance. Credit in each account has been earned by value proven, promises kept, and deadlines met. The benefit of a good reputation cannot be understated, and is thought by some successful internet marketers to be the greatest asset their businesses have.

Glass, china, and reputation are easily cracked and never well-mended. (Proverb)

Reliving Fredricksburg Virginia

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

It had been an interesting week, having vacationed in Charleston, South Carolina, I decided to drive to Fredricksburg Virginia on my way back home to Indiana.

It was a long drive and since I didn’t leave Charleston until late morning,I didn’t arrive in Richmond Virginia until after dark. I decided to stay in Richmond and drive up to Fredricksburg the next morning.

Pulling off I-95 and driving into town, I suddenly drove past a cemetery on the left. Looking over, my first thought was,”That’s funny, that cemetery wasn’t there the last time I was here.” The interesting part was, I had never been here before! Passing the gate, I noticed a sign stating it was a Civil War Cemetery. My next thought was, ” That is the reason I don’t recognize it, I was here during the American Revolution, the cemetery wasn’t here yet!”

I still hadn’t quite grasped the idea that reincarnation was a possibility, however , this thought, completely unprovoked gave more credence to that possibility. As I drove into town more surprises awaited me! This was amazing, I recognized everything about the town, it was like I had been here just yesterday! I had no trouble finding my way around, all the way through town to the Rising Sun Inn on the far end of town. This Inn had been owned by Lawrence Washington, George Washington’s brother!

The Inn had been preserved from Revolutionary War times, touring the building, it seemed so natural to be here. I sensed I had eaten and stayed here many times. Walking the streets of town I came to the Masonic Lodge, It was George Washington’s home lodge. How cool! It was open, never thinking I would have this opportunity, I quickly entered the building and approached the lodge room. It was like any other lodge I had ever had the privilege to enter. The special part was knowing that George Washington and other founding fathers had met in this very room! One could only imagine what conversations had taken place during that important part of our history! What plans were made, who made them, and how was it decided which course of action should be taken?

What part did I play in this, who was I, and why was I drawn here at this particular time?

The founding of our country had always fascinated me, I never tired of reading about how that period of time had changed the lives of all mankind. Realizing that I might have played a part, even if it was a small part, was extremely gratifying! Deep down, I had always had those feelings of living in those times, but never really considered it a possibility, until now. Even though at times such a concept as reincarnatin was hard to accept, the evidence was overwhelming!

I now realized ,while in Charleston, I had some of the same thoughts enter my mind. Everyone relates Charleston with the Civil War, maybe my time there was during an earlier period, when Charleston was equally important in the beginning of our Republic, the American Revolution.

The Dumb Mistakes Most Bookkeepers Make When Taking on New Clients

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

If you’re a freelance bookkeeper who is building your bookkeeping business, there are certain clients that you need to avoid to save yourself from constant stress. They are the clients who either

1) don’t pay tax bills,
2) have years worth of paperwork in boxes tax
3) who are too difficult to work with.

I’ll go into further detail on each of these types of clients and give you strategies to help deal with them.

1. The client who doesn’t pay:

You typically won’t know if a client is bad about paying their bills on time until you actually start sorting through their paperwork. If you start discovering a consistent amount of late bills, final notices and collection letters, you know you’ve got a client who doesn’t pay his bills in a timely manner. This should be a huge red flag for you. After all, you want to be sure that they’re going to pay your bill.

So what can you do to protect yourself? For all new clients you should insist upon a retainer up front before the work commences. The amount of the retainer will depend upon the amount of work that is required. Keep track of your hours.

Once you’ve used up the entire retainer, request another one and inform your client that work will not commence again until you receive another retainer. You’ll learn really quickly how good your client is at paying you and you won’t be out anything as you’ve already been paid for the work you’ve done.

2. The client with piles of paperwork in boxes:

This type of client tends to be extremely disorganized. After all, if they can’t take the time to sort out their paperwork into at least monthly files, then you know you’ve got your work cut out for you.

The question is: are you willing to tax the time to sort it all out? If you’re new and hungry for business, you may decide to take it on. However, bear in mind that huge gaps of essential information might be missing and it will literally be like putting together a jigsaw puzzle trying to get your client’s finances in order.

You will probably find yourself calling the client repeatedly to request documents. This type of bookkeeping job requires the patience of a saint. Make sure that you’ve requested a retainer before even taking this type of job on.

If you don’t think that you want to deal with this type of client, don’t be afraid to pass on the job. You might even suggest to the client that they could save money by sorting their paperwork into monthly files first.

3. The difficult client:

As surprising as it seems, there will always be clients who need a bookkeeper but are their own worst enemy. These are the clients who you have to hound for checks so their government remittances are paid on time or who don’t return your calls for additional information so that you can complete your job.

If you find yourself dealing with a difficult client who is just wasting your time, there are a couple of things you can do. EBook Marketing – Clickbank Pitch Pages

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

So you’ve been to Clickbank and browsed around. You’ve seen the pitch or sales pages for a number of products. In this article we will take a little more in depth analysis of what goes into creating a powerful pitch page for a Clickbank sales page and give you some tips on how to create one yourself.

The first thing you notice is that every pitch page for a Clickbank product is one single page. There are no sites with links to other pages featuring other products by the publisher. The reason for this is simple. To understand that reason one must realize that there are two ways a visitor might make it to a Clickbank sales page. First, they may have done a search for a product on-line and found the site in the organic listings on YaHoo!, MSN, Google or some other search engine. Let’s call these people “fresh visitors.”

There are also visitors coming to Clickbank sales pages who clicked on a link from an affiliate for that product and that click resulted in them being taken to the Clickbank site. In such a case the visitor clicked on what is called a “hoplink” to the sales page. The affiliate created that hoplink which Clickbank will monitor and place a cookie on the visitor’s computer when they reach the pitch page. If the visitor ends up buying the product on that page, Clickbank will read the cookie and award the affiliate his or her commission for referring the customer to the sales page in question.

If a publisher were to sell more than one product from their Clickbank site, it would interfere with Clickbank’s tracking and make it nearly impossible for Clickbank to award commissions to affiliates properly. THis is why all Clickbank sales pages are only one page long and never promote more than one product.

Now, what about the content of the page? Most Clickbank pitch pages start with either an attention getting header graphic, or a big bold heading in 18 or 24 point text. Often Tahoma or Impact fonts are used, but sometimes something like Times or Times Roman are used. The headline needs to grab the reader’s attention. You only have a few seconds to pull the visitor in to want more information.

Some Clickbank publishers will tell exactly what their product is all about in the headline, others will create a sub-header to do that task–but however it’s done, the reader must become locked into the site within the first 10 seconds.

About one-third of the way through the pitch page most of the power seller’s pitch page will begin with a, “From The Desk Of…” message to the reader. The purpose of this is to establish a relationship with the reader. This part of the page is more personal–they try to make it sound as if they were right across the table talking to you. This is important, the seller must infer some degree of trust to the reader before they can ask for credit card information.

Virtually every Clickbank ebook seller will also have an opt-in form on their pitch page as well. Some use static, in-line forms–but most use a pop-up or “hover-over” type form. Collecting name and email info is a top priority because the publishers will work their lists aggressively to harvest more sales.

And one more key feature: The vast majority of power sellers will have some kind of exit-capture strategy for visitors clicking to leave their site without ordering. The two most common exit-capture systems are provided by IntelliChat and VirtualSmartAgent. You’ve see this used. You go to click to leave the site and a pop-up appears with a chat box and a virtual sales agent. The agent will offer you a $10 or $20 discount you order through them. These companies collect a commission on every sale they capture through this technology. Before you purchase any Clickbank product, I would recommend closing the pitch page to see if you are offered a discount rather than ordering directly. You can often save a few bucks.

My last ket point involves the testimonials. Here’s a little secret: A great number of testimonials on Clickbank pitch pages come from affiliates who are promoting the product on which their testimonial appears. I’m not suggesting this is wrong, but you should know that many of these are not testimonials from the average “Joe on the street.” There are a handful of affiliates who have their testimonials appear on dozens and dozens of Clickbank sales pages.

This is partially because they are affiliates for these products, and also because the big guys always include the URL for the web site of the person giving the testimonial. This is sort of a “pay-back” for the comment as some visitors will then click on the affiliate’s web site.

Three Powerful Secrets of the Successful and Rich (Which You Can Copy and Use Right Now!)

Monday, October 27th, 2008

In today’s world, there are many notable and successful mega rich millionaires who were at one time or another were a school drop out. Richard Branson and Simon Cowell are excellent examples of this trend. As a result of their brief experience with education, business people like Richard Branson rarely create new inventions, but what they do create is massive wealth and businesses, and partnership reason they can achieve this is down to their millionaire mindset. The kind of mindset that so many successful and influential people have. It is the mindset that helps people from all kinds of backgrounds achieve their lifetime goals, dreams and ambitions. This article is going to give you three secrets to achieving this mindset, so you can duplicate such success, and be on course to create mega wealth and success for you and your loved ones.

Secret 1.
Definiteness of Purpose. Have one outstanding goal, one objective, one over-arching desire that you are committed to. It does not matter what it is, but you have to be specific about it in your own mind. Write down what you want. If it is a certain lifestyle, then what goes a long with that lifestyle? Do you want a new home for your family? If so, write down all the features that home would have, describe the car you want to buy, be specific about the places you want to do. Write it all down, and then scour the Internet for pictures that represent the goal you have set for yourself. For example, I have a massive canvas picture of the view from a building I want to live in within a few years time. It sits right above my desk in front of me, so when I finish typing, or when the work gets a bit difficult, I take a couple of minutes to look up at the canvas and remind myself what it is all about, and why I am doing this.

Secret 2.
Learn from your failures. If you set up a venture, business or a project and fail, learn from it because it is not the end of the world. Some of the partnership successful people in the world failed numerous times in business before getting to where they are today. It is important to be committed to your goals, and not to give up when you fail or when things get difficult, persistence and strength of character is key.

Secret 3.
Develop an attractive personality. Not all of us are naturally charismatic or the life and soul of every social function we attend, but we can all develop an attractive personality by making a few adjustments in how we communicate with people. Treat people with respect, no matter who they are. Engage with people you talk to and make them feel like they are the only person who matters in the room at that time. And always try to take something positive from a situation. People are not attracted to negativity or people who constantly complain.

“These are just three principles which help to make up the “millionaire mindset”. There are actually many other principles that comprise this mindset, and you can learn more about them by reading the story of Tom McMillan and Michael Redford in Millionaire Upgrade.”
